One person a narcissist is scared of messing with may surprise you. When you're used to seeing them scan a room and know who they can push around, this person will never fall into that category.
They don't know it because they assume they are able to manipulate and mess with whoever they want, but sometimes, it happens…
…They get it massively wrong. This person can rip a narcissist apart, and I need you to know who they are so you know they're not the unbreakable people you think they are.
Because once you meet this person, or become this person, the whole illusion of narcissistic power falls apart. They're not scary anymore. They're just noisy and desperate.

1 I know you already know
Deep down you do! If you've any kind of experience with a narcissist, you'll know how crazy they get, and the louder you are, the louder they become. The point here is to not be any of those things, even if you really want to let it all out.
Don't be loud or mean. Don't fight fire with fire; you should know by now that this doesn't work with narcissists. Yes, it might make you feel marginally better, but that will be very temporary until the narcissist gets their own back on you.
If you've sat through narcissistic abuse before, you'll know it's a game that you never want to have to play again. You've been there, crying every hour of every day and night. It's gotten to the point where you don't care any more.
You've become a person every criticism can land on, and it won't affect you because why should it? The narcissist is trying to perform a magic trick for you, and all you are doing is sitting there laughing to yourself, already knowing how every single trick works.
If you haven't gotten to this point yet, I assure you, you will someday. Every single victim does.
A woman I worked with told me she reached a point where his insults sounded like a weather report. Rain again. Storm again. Fine, whatever.
It's what you do with the information you're learning that will make all the difference.
2 The difference is…
The difference I am talking about is:
You need to no longer need the narcissist's approval. I know it's hard, and people who go no contact with their narcissist can still go for years wanting their approval. My advice would be to stop looking for it, because it won't come to you.

Everything the narcissist does is to get at you and make you feel like you constantly owe them something. They act as though they're so high and mighty because their ego never sleeps. The fuel is you giving and giving, while all they do is take and take.
If you stop that, you stop everything. You can no longer be punished by their silence or manipulation tactics because you aren't looking for ways to constantly make them like or love you.
That means each time the narcissist tries to praise you, it goes over your head because you aren't looking or asking for it. Same goes for any threat they try to deliver; they all land flat.
No praise to chase, no threat to fear. That is when the narcissist realises they've been holding an empty leash the whole time.
That's what it looks and feels like to detonate their explosive behavior with just one move, with you becoming someone they wish they'd never got involved with. Are you turning into this type of person after years of abuse that has left you wanting to fight for yourself?

3 The narcissist goes crazy in the quiet of this person
Silence is quite nice, isn't it? It's so wonderful to be at peace, even just for a little while as our lives ask more and more of us. Let me break it to you:
A narcissist hates silence. Calm rattles them, and anyone who is unbothered makes them even more agitated. Narcissists are the kind of people who are wired for craziness.
They love to be in the center of chaos and drama, and any conflict that arises in life is absorbed and loved just the same. The narcissist feeds off your reaction from every part of that.
When they happen to be messing with a certain kind of person, that person will look at them and say, "Right. Are you done here?" The narcissist, taken aback, will wonder what on earth is happening. It's as if their mind has been detonated; what on earth is happening?
Not needing the narcissist's approval means you do become someone who just doesn't even flinch. You're not bothered, and not in a rude way, just in a way that preserves your energy. You cherish it, and you don't want anything to rock that.
You don't need to invite tears or panic to the conversation or situation. You don't need or want to explain anything.
You know what it's like to have been there before, where you beg and the narcissist smirks and lets you continue to lose yourself more and more until you give them everything you ever wanted. You choose instead, to tell yourself, "I see you, and I'm not playing."
Oh boy, the narcissist will get loud.

That one line, delivered flat, does more damage than any shouting match ever could. They came for a fight and got a shrug instead.
They will throw more drama your way, and come at you from a different angle. If you've never seen a narcissist's mask slip, prepare for this moment, because you will see it all!

4 Limits are guilt-free
No is a complete sentence, did you know that? Maybe you did, but you struggle to put it into practice. I'm here to tell you that you can do that, and win against every type of toxic person you encounter.
People won't mess with you if you learn to say no and be confident in it. If you can do this, a narcissist will never mess with you, and if they do, they will forever regret it, let me tell you. Maybe you might try to… No!
Sorry, but could you just… No! Don't add an apology onto it, or make it fluffy, no is enough, and so are you. A narcissist will always try and guilt people who say no because that's just what they're so good at.
It works if those people don't practice 'no,' or who feel uncomfortable after saying it. You shouldn't have a soft spot for not wanting to let people down, and you should never allow yourself to cave either.
Reclaim who you are, and the narcissist will struggle to break your guard down. In fact, they will give up before they even get going. You get to decide your own limits, and it's about time you started doing that today in order to be this one person.
And you'll notice something interesting. The guilt they used to plant? It stops taking root. The soil just isn't there for them anymore.

5 There is some good news
I think the main assumption that you can be someone the narcissist regrets messing with is that you have to be born that way; as if you cannot learn it somehow.
That's untrue, there is always the opportunity to be who you want to be, and with hard work, time and patience, you'll get there. You have to build who that person is, and what you want them to look like.
You may even have to go through the kind of experiences that you regret not standing up for yourself more while you were in them. It's painful, and it can be slow, but I don't doubt that all of you have the power and capability to really see it through.
If you do, you'll find that all narcissists will back away from you, because they will see you as someone they won't be able to break.

Wouldn't that feel good? Knowing that the same person who once made your hands shake now avoids you completely, because you finally became too much work.
6 So who exactly is this person?
So who is this person, really? They're the one who has stopped performing. They're not trying to prove they're good, kind, worthy, forgiving, patient, or any of the labels the narcissist once dangled in front of them like a shiny carrot.
This person has an internal compass that doesn't swing wildly every time the narcissist raises their voice or goes cold for three days. They know who they are, and they don't need a narcissist (or anyone else) to confirm it for them.
They are usually someone who has done the work. Therapy, reading, journalling, long walks, hard conversations with themselves at 2am. Nothing glamorous. Just the slow, unsexy rebuild.
And weirdly, they aren't hard. They can still be warm, still be kind, still love people deeply. But their kindness has a spine now. It isn't there to be harvested.
That is the person. Not louder, not colder, not tougher in the way you might picture. Just settled. Rooted. And completely unavailable for the game.

7 The moment they realize they picked wrong
There's usually a specific moment. Not a scene, not a big blow up, just a pause where something clicks behind their eyes. They said the thing that used to work, and it didn't work.

That's when they know.
They picked wrong. And you can almost see them recalculating, trying to figure out where the leverage went. Was it there yesterday? They think it was. So what changed?
You did. Quietly, without announcing it, without warning them. They walked into the same room expecting the same person and found someone else standing there.
And this is the part they truly can't stand. It's not that you fought back. It's that you didn't need to. Their whole toolkit just sat there being useless in their hands, and they had no idea what to reach for next.
