Narcissists are master-mockers. They just can't help themselves when the opportunity arises for them to laugh at you, and turn whatever you care about into punchlines to make you feel bad.
It doesn't matter what it is; it will be up for their snide remarks, and in turn, they kind of dig their own holes of embarrassment that they end up in when those very things are taken away.
Here are 10 things a narcissist will gladly mock about you that they eventually wish they actually had back.
And when I say wish, I mean it. There's a very specific kind of quiet that lands on a narcissist when the thing they laughed at walks out the door.

1 Missing not having you?
Well, let's put that into perspective, because it isn't necessarily you they miss, but rather parts of you that actually served them in some way. Let's remember the type of person we're dealing with here; the narcissist is never going to sit back and relax in your actual company.
Mocking you means picking out things about you that are nice and positive, and turning them into some kind of problem. Every little habit or passion you have in your life will be made to feel like some ridiculous aspect of you the narcissist is trying to chip away at.
You shrink, the narcissist smirks. It was real for them, and that's why they miss it when you leave. When you go, you take it all with you. The narcissist then has nothing.
A woman I spoke with recently said her ex mocked her morning routine for years. The moment she left, he started copying it. Every part of it.
2 The way you lived in the kitchen
This food is so bland. Did you not think to follow a recipe? Why are you trying to make something you evidently cannot cook?
You did everything with such care, and now you're being talked down to, yet again, by the very person who finds pleasure in making your life hell. You remembered the last time you made this dish, and you adjusted it to be more or less spicy.
It still wasn't right, despite trying to show up with food for them. Eventually, you stop. Guess what? The narcissist now has nobody to cook for them. They don't have you there in the kitchen because you gave up trying to please someone who was constantly moving the goalposts.
They've since then realized that nobody is going to love them like you do, therefore nobody will put that much care into their food as you did. That's a bit of a tough spot to be in!
Perhaps they should've thought about that before they mocked you for no real reason.

And do you know what they end up doing? Standing in a cold kitchen at 9pm, opening the fridge like something magical might appear. Nothing does.
3 How emotionally honest you are
Narcissists love how emotionally honest you are, because their replies are usually hot, and sound like this:
You're so sensitive! Why does everything have to be so deep with you? Get over it! Stop being so needy! They mocked your emotions because that honesty you have about you was a mirror that they just could not bear standing and looking into.
You were real, you spoke real things, and you were terrifying to them. They've learned the hard way, because now they're surrounded by people who are empty, shallow, and refuse to go deeper than surface level with anyone.
This is a kind of hollowness the narcissist is, but not the type they necessarily want to be around. For them, there's nothing to steal from these people. Nobody is overly joyous to the point where the narcissist wants to syphon it from them. Tough, right?

That honesty was the closest thing to real connection they'd ever brushed up against. They pushed it away, and now they sit in rooms full of people saying absolutely nothing.
4 The people you know, and I mean everyone
A narcissist will gladly question and mock everyone you know, because they know how much it gets under your skin. They will make these little digs about your sister, or make faces when you mention your best friend.
They can hear the plans you're trying to make with them, and will make it their mission to have you just not feel like going. I don't think they really care about you. You do too much for them. It's always you initiating everything.
The narcissist here isn't worried about you, but they're rather thinking about how they're losing control of you. They. Do. Not. Want. That. Since you're back with these very people, the narcissist feels lost.
As you're rebuilding your love and connection with them, the narcissist has nobody else in their corner. That stings. They want you back. They want you to be able to feel the pain of their hurtful words once more, but you're too busy living the best life.
Meanwhile, they're sitting there realising every person they told you to distance yourself from was actually a good one. Funny how clarity arrives once the audience has left the room.

5 Your ambition
There it is: the big one! I love bringing up this subject because I firmly believe your studies and life are important.

What you do with your ambition is totally up to you, but when abusers come into the picture, they dictate and shift what your limits are; and victims believe them. You think you're cut out for that? You aren't qualified! You couldn't handle the pressure. Um… says who?!
The narcissist says they're being honest because they care, but you know the truth. You know they're mocking you because they want you small. Now you're moving and making things happen for yourself, and the narcissist misses the fact that you're out there with no way of being controlled.
Let them watch from their sad distance.
And why does it eat at them so much? Because your ambition was never really about the job. It was about you believing in yourself again, and they can't stand that.
6 How you loved
You loved with all your heart, and that was never up for debate. You were just that type of person. You show up, check in, remember the important dates, and you will never change. You were mocked by the narcissist for being weak or soft. Now?
Now you're off without them, and they have no receiving of that love. It was as if you had some sort of character flaw, when in reality, you were just a warm, loving person.
Nobody loves them like you did. They know it. They can feel the difference every time someone new gives them the bare minimum and calls it affection.
Tough for them, right?

7 How content you were
You always were content just being. You didn't need drama or money or perfect conditions in order to be happy. That riled the narcissist, who can only feel good when they're putting others down or mocking them.
They need constant fuel from everyone on the outside because they have nothing on the inside. When you go, they realize they'd give anything to just feel a tiny fragment of peace that you carry with you without any effort. What a shame for them, NOT!
Contentment is the one thing a narcissist cannot fake for long. They can perform happiness, sure, but peace? Peace requires a self, and they haven't built one.
8 Your job or career
It's all well and good mocking someone who has a real career, but when you are a narcissist and evidently reap the benefits of someone who's on a good wage, you'll miss it when they take it away from you.
This is often the case with victims of this type of abuse who meet their abuser and find themselves giving up everything, or leaving and taking it with them as they go. The narcissist might mock you for whatever it is you do, pretending that you're overpaid, but guess what?

You take your money with you, and you get the last laugh. It's funny because you were willing to share your income and treat the narcissist, but the two cannot work together, can they?
Eventually, one has to give, and usually that'll be the narcissist ending up without you and your money.
And suddenly the person they called overpaid is the person they're comparing every new partner to. The mocking stops fast when the bank account does too.
9 Your Sense of Humor They Rolled Their Eyes At
Your humor was the good kind. Dry, quick, a little weird sometimes. You'd crack a joke and the room would light up, and there they were, arms folded, giving you that flat, unimpressed look. Or worse, that little sigh, like you were trying too hard. That's not funny.
Nobody laughs at your jokes but you. You know that, right? So you stopped. You dimmed it. You saved the good stuff for people who actually got it.
Now they're out there trying to be the funny one. Cracking jokes at dinner tables and getting nothing back but polite smiles. Because being genuinely funny takes warmth, and they don't have any. They have timing without soul, which lands about as well as you'd expect.
Meanwhile, your friends still text you screenshots of things that reminded them of you. Your group chat is chaos. You're somewhere laughing your head off at something stupid, and the narcissist is somewhere else, wondering why nobody thinks they're clever anymore.
Turns out mocking someone's humor doesn't make you funnier. Who knew.

10 The Way You Made a House Feel Like Home
You had a way of walking into a space and making it breathe. Cushions moved, a candle got lit, the kettle went on, and suddenly the place felt like somewhere you could actually exhale. The narcissist mocked all of it. Too fussy. Too much clutter.
Why do you need so many blankets? Why does the throw have to match anything? They rolled their eyes at your little rituals, the way you rearranged the shelves for the third time that month, the way you cared where the lamp sat.
Then you left. And the house went cold. Not literally, but in every way that actually matters. The walls stopped feeling lived in. The rooms echoed a bit more. That candle they laughed at? Gone. That throw? Folded up in a drawer somewhere, or worse, in the bin.
They walk into their own space now and feel absolutely nothing. No warmth, no scent, no soft corner to sink into after a long day. Just walls. Just furniture. A house, not a home. And they know exactly who took the home part with her.
